Thor's Wedding Day: An Interesting And Funny Juvenile Fiction

Juvenile fiction has been read and loved through the ages, in the modern time's such books are readily available on sites like Mediajist. There are many writers who attempt to add a twist to popular stories and give them a humorous angle. One of the best examples of such a book is Thor's Wedding Day by Bruce Coville.

In this story, Coville describes that Thor's hammer, Mjollner, has been stolen by the giants. The only way to get it back is to meet Thrym's demand to marry the beautiful goddess Freya, Thor's next door neighbor. But Freya does not wish to marry a giant and that too a dim-witted one such as Thrym. And this is when the Gods of Asgard come up with a plan.

They ask Thor to get dressed like Freya in fancy finery, along with him go Loki and Thor's goat boy, the mortal Thialfi, to Jotunheimen to pretend to marry Thrym and retrieve the hammer.

Luckily Thialfi has come with snarky charges, Grinder and Gat-Tooth also accompany Thor. By working behind the scenes, Thialfi might be able to save Thor and get him his hammer back. This is fair because he was the reason that the hammer was stolen in the first place.

This book is a hilarious take on the only comedy in Norse mythology, it comes with interesting characters like talking goats, cross-dressing Gods, and the warm wit that has made Bruce Coville so famous amongst the readers.
